Need More Help?

If you have looked through the Business Plan Template and are unsure of the right way to proceed, then many of the agencies in this Guide have services designed specifically to help you.

Mentoring Services

Mentoring services are provided by several agencies, and are designed to help you, whether you are starting your own business, or have recently established one. Typically, mentoring services will provide you with advisers to help overcome business obstacles. Generally, the advisers are mature, experienced professional business people.

The mentors role is to: -

  • Listen to your needs
  • Advise and counsel on solutions to your business challenges
  • Help identify problems and areas for improvement

Additionally, the mentor can contribute independent, informed observations to aid your business in decision-making processes. Typical areas where a mentor might provide assistance to you include: -

  • Business Plan Preparation
  • General Management
  • Financial Structuring
  • Production Planning
  • Marketing
  • Distribution
  • Corporate Organisation
  • Strategic Planning
  • Grant Application Process

Generally, business mentors will: -

  • Outline guidelines for you to follow
  • Point out strengths and weaknesses in your proposed business ideas
  • Act as a confidential sounding board for your ideas
  • Assist you in the preparation of your Business Plans

Please note, however, that the mentor is normally not a professional consultant and may not become actively involved in the day-to-day management or assume the role of executive in your company.

Some Agencies are able to offer you extensive mentoring advice, including Local Enterprise Office Dublin City, Dublin Business Innovation Centre and Enterprise Ireland. Others offer very specialist services, such as Bord Bia (Irish Food Board).
